Anna Charney - Artist
I am fascinated by the similarities of natural and organic shapes that are often ignored in everyday life. I see these similarities most in the forms of the human figure and the land – two things that don’t only hold physical resemblances, but are also intertwined in the collective reality.
Human interaction and energy is forever linked with that of the land, a process that requires a balance and a give and take. Through my art, I intend to explore not only the physical qualities of these two forms, but also to further understand the universal aspect of the relationship between these two most basic forms of life.

Bio
Anna Charney is a young artist living in Denver, Colorado. She has been surrounded by art all her life and most of her training came from attending the Denver School of the Arts for her seven years of middle and high school.
In 2012, she is beginning her further education in the fine arts at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Most of Anna’s inspiration comes from her extensive travels and the scenes that those have added to her visual memory. Travel has taught Anna the importance of art and how it is one of the only threads that links the entire population into modern day. It is for this reason that art holds so much importance in Anna’s life.
Anna has received extensive recognition and awards for her paintings, drawings and ceramic sculptures. Click here for more detail. -
Artist Statement
Universal reality is a sum of each individual’s singular perception of it, leading to one large and beautiful collective reality. However wondrous, it becomes too immense to see the individual ideas that help to shape it. It is for this reason that I make art. I create to experience my personal reality and to experience what truly exists along with me. By creating what I experience, I am retracting myself briefly from the massive world we live in, and focusing on my personal world as understood with my own awareness. With this purpose, I become more conscious of the rest of reality because I put more developed ideas into it: I can live along with things because I have understood them, rather than simply accepted and lived with them.
This breakdown helps to inspire interpretations, both mentally and visually. There is more to something than its objective nature. If one is to consider the world without personal experience, a completely different sense of what it is may come.
I am fascinated with the human body which – without all of its historical, religious, and social connotations – at its core, is something born of the land. The figure is a mere grouping of shapes and textures, similar to that of a mountain or desert. These formed conceptions of how things are then circle back to help me form and exist happily, with consciousness, in my own personal reality and, therefore, with contentment, in the collective reality.
